We went out this afternoon and worked together to make some shelters. We did lots of learning and had great fun! Hopefully, the weather will stay fine for the other classes coming to have a go tomorrow.

Learning about the past
We had a fantastic visit to the Bishop and Earl's Palace this week when we enjoyed listening to our peers in P6. They taught us about the history of the buildings and what life would have been like hundreds of years ago.
Conquering Wideford Hill
On a beautiful summer's day all of the Primary 5's walked to the top of Wideford Hill. We took part in different activities and learned more about the rich habitats we have in Orkney. All of us felt a sense of achievement and pride when we returned to school.

Visit to HMS Bulwark
We have had a memorable week at school following events for the commemoration of the Battle of Jutland. One of the opportunities we had was a class visit to HMS Bulwark. We thoroughly enjoyed our trip and were very grateful to the crew for showing us around.

World War One lunch
Yesterday we continued our learning about the first World War when we had a typical school lunch from that period. First we had to get our ration cards checked and signed.
Then we all had a lunch of stew and tatties followed by Orkney pancakes.
In the afternoon we went to find out about the person whose name was on our ration card. It was really interesting to find out about the people who had been involved in the war and came from Orkney.

Learning about the Battle of Jutland
This afternoon we went to the Orkney Museum to see the Battle of Jutland exhibition. First of all we looked at the information boards which had photos and facts about the battle. Next we looked at the sculpture of Jellicoe, who was Admiral of the Royal Navy. We also saw models of some of the warships and letters about the war.
After that we went to St Magnus Cathedral to see the Weeping Window display. Each poppy looks very detailed and special, like they are real.

This morning we went a walk with the children in the nursery and pre-school. They have done all their training and this week are doing their sponsored Daily Mile.
We thought they did great!

UNICEF'S Day for Change
This week we have been thinking about how we can change the world to make it a better place for everyone. We planned who we wanted to help and thought of how we could do this. Ideas ranged from having a sponsored silence for the children in Syria, to donating old footballs to support the street children in Brazil.
We shared our ideas in the class and got lots of positive feedback from our friends.

Sharing our work on 'Mile a Day'
We took some of the nursery and pre-school children with us on our walk around the Peedie Sea paths today. Everyone had great fun with their buddy, with lots of interesting chatter!
Battle of Jutland commemoration
We are continuing our work on the Battle of Jutland and thinking about how people commemorate important events. We have started to make our own poppies with Mrs Thomson. When they are finished they will be part of a whole school display.
The festival of Passover
We have been learning about the Jewish festival of Passover which is celebrated on the 22nd April. We worked with Mrs Linklater, our drama teacher to create a short play about the story behind Passover. Here are some of our script readers and 'still' shots.

The spectacular Weeping Window
This afternoon we visited St Magnus Cathedral and saw the poppies being put up by several individuals. The Weeping Window installation is here for the commemoration of the Battle of Jutland. We asked some people what they thought about it and they said it was pretty, cool, amazing, beautiful, memorable and remarkable.
